How to set USB Drive custom icons using simple steps

If you use more than one pen drives on your computer, it’s quite common to get confused to detect where the pen drive that you want is. What if you could be able to use a custom picture for the USB drive, it sounds great right!!! You can actually do that, I am going to take you through the process of how to do that in this piece of article.

Now let us get started

When you plug in your USB drive to your computer, it will show up like this

USB Drive

Now it’s time for you to choose a custom icon for the USB drive. Now if you want the original icon for it, it can be downloaded. You just have to type “<Pendrive model number> ico” and download the custom icon of your choice in .ico format.

Now rename the filename of the .ico file as autorun.ico and move it to the root of your USB flash drive.

Now create a text file by the name autorun.inf using Notepad with the following text in it and place it in the root of your drive.

[autorun]
Label=”put here the label name that you want to name for your drive”
Icon=filename.ico (Replace the file name with the filename of your icon file)

 For example:

[autorun]

Label=B V RAO

Icon=bvrao.ico

That is it you are done.

You can even hide these items by changing the attributes.

After this process, just unplug your device and plug it again to see the custom icon.

You can even use your image as the flash drive icon. But in these you first need to convert your image from .jpg format or any other format that it is to .icon format. There are some converters available online and one of them that I suggest is ImageToIcon.

So these are the simple steps that you can follow to place a custom icon to your external drive.
