With the raging controversy towards the user data security on Google, the company has been trying so much to put in some efforts to make the platform reliable for the users. In such an effort, it has recently introduced a key control that lets the users change the settings related to Google retaining the user data. The changed settings will now allow users to auto-delete the web and location history from users’ Google account. New Google accounts come with this setting set in default, but for the old Google users, it needs a small setup.
Steps to auto-delete web and location history
- As a first step, you should navigate to Google’s Activity Controls If you are not signed in then log in to your Google account
- Now turn the toggle key to off the option “Auto-delete”
- Then, you will find the option and choose to auto-delete your Google activity after 3 or 18 months. Then click on “Next”
- Here, click “Confirm” to make the change permanent
- If you also don’t want to keep a track of your web activity, then you can turn off disable that by toggling off the option “Web and App Activity”
- In the same way, scroll down and turn off the toggle for “Location History” and “YouTube History”. Doing this, you will permanently stop Google from retaining your location history, YouTube, and web activity. Remember, this also means that your Google experience will not be as personalized as it used to be earlier.
Follow these steps and retain your data from Google. If you feel concerned about your data, and if you prioritize your privacy, then this is a must for you.
